California Health and Safety Code (HSC) 102230 now permits certain entities to access birth, death, and marriage record indices for fraud prevention, identity verification, and legal purposes.

The Research and Analytics Branch (RAB) provides access to essential health data and statistical resources that support public health research, policy development, community health assessments, and public inquiries. Our work serves government agencies, academic institutions, private researchers, and the general public.

To support the State Registrar in responsible, transparent data management. We provide and safeguard high-quality data that empowers Californians to make informed public health decisions.

Centered Cards

Vital Statistics Data Analytics
Resources and Services

Provides access to vital statistics datasets and reports
Processes and reviews data application requests
Coordinates the Vital Statistics Advisory Committee (VSAC)
Responds to public and media data inquiries

End of Life Option Act (EOLA)

Allows eligible terminally ill adults to make informed end-of-life decisions
CDPH collects data and publishes an annual report in accordance with the Act, ensuring transparency and compliance with privacy requirements
